Bassick is no stranger to music, rhythm, or melodies. Born and raised in Flint, MI, by parents who shared a love for music, he was disc jockeying at local roller skating rinks by age 12. In 1991, he began formal training in music, playing the drums, and percussion. He quickly excelled, becoming the drum section leader for the school marching band, and also played drums with a local ska/punk band in the Detroit metro area and surrounding regions.
Bassick earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from General Motors Institute. During this time, he was introduced to the underground music movement in Detroit. At the Packard Plant, he became influenced by the Detroit rave scene of the late-1990s and started immersing himself in various genres of electronic music. In 1998, while studying in the UK, Jeff began to define the unique sound that propelled his musical career. This sound borrowed the bassline-driven aspects of drum and bass and molded them into a house format known as speed garage.
After returning to the United States, Bassick held residencies at Detroit Science, Churchill’s, Juniors, and Club Nightingale, opening for acts such as Frankie Bones, D-Wynn, DJ Dan, The Trouble Men, Simply Jeff, and King Britt. This is also when he began record label and dj collective “Disfresh”.
Today, Bassick occasionally appears at local shows, but his priorities have shifted significantly. His focus is now on deepening his relationship with God. Embracing a new chapter in his life, he is producing faith-based dance music under his birth name, Jeff Hammond. Through his music, Jeff aims to inspire and uplift, merging his passion for dance music with his spiritual journey. His new works reflect a harmonious blend of energetic beats and inspirational messages, striving to reach a wider audience with a message of faith and positivity.
